Are you interested in getting an iPad to replace your laptop or want to know whether an iPad can do all (if not more) of the functions of a laptop? We’ve put together our guide to help you decide whether an iPad can replace a laptop!
Entertainment
their laptops for entertainment, whether that’s watching Youtube, playing games or being social with friends. These functions are all possible on an iPad however, there may be some limitations on the games you can play online with friends. Whilst the app store has a plethora of games to choose from there are still some PC exclusives that could mean you have to take a back seat on game nights.
Although, if you are more interested in streaming and being social then an iPad could be the perfect solution as not only can you download apps to do these functions such as Netflix, YouTube, Discord and Skype, built-in features such as FaceTime and iMessage make it simple to connect with other Apple users.
Working and Studying
If you want to use an iPad over a laptop for work or school then we think it could be a good solution. An iPad allows you to join Zoom, or other virtual meetings easily with the built-in camera and microphone. It’s also straightforward to respond and write emails from an iPad with whichever email provider you already use. There are accessories that can make working on documents easier such as BlueTooth keyboards for typing or the Apple Pencil for note taking.
The Microsoft suite; PowerPoint, Word, Excel, etc, are all available in the App store however, some of the functionality is lost when trying to do everything solely from a tablet. Over time we predict this to get better but at the moment, you would likely still need a laptop to at least check over documents or presentations before submitting/presenting them.
Personal Admin
Another function most people do from a laptop is typically admin work such as checking bank accounts, doing the weekly food shop, or shopping online. The great news is that if this is your primary use for a laptop then an iPad can definitely be a replacement.
Existing apps for banking or shopping are typically designed for mobile/tablet functionality which means they work great from an iPad. If where you’re shopping doesn’t have an App then it’s still easy to access and shop from the web browser – as long as the site has invested in mobile/tablet design for their site, which these days is pretty much standard for all sites.
