With Google recently launching their new Pixel lineup, we thought we’d quickly run through some of the latest devices and what we’re most excited to see here at the iOutlet!
What are the new Pixel 9 models?
Google has outdone itself this year, introducing four new models to suit every preference and budget. The lineup includes the base Pixel 9 starting at £799, the Pixel 9 Pro at £999, the larger Pixel 9 Pro XL at £1,099, and the innovative Pixel 9 Pro Fold at £1,799. So, there are plenty of options to choose from if you want to trade in your old phone!
A Fresh Design
The new Pixel 9 series also brings a design refresh! The base model sports flat matte metal sides and a polished glass back in four new colours. If you opt for the Pro models, you’ll get a slightly different design with glossy rails and a soft-touch glass back.
But it’s not just about looks—the displays have received a significant upgrade too. The Pixel 9’s display is 35% brighter than the previous model, making it easier to use in direct sunlight. Plus, with thinner bezels all around, you get more screen without bulking up the phone – Pixel 9 and 9 Pro both feature 6.3-inch displays, while the Pro XL goes big with a 6.8-inch screen.
Power & Intelligence
Inside each Pixel 9 model lies the new Tensor G4 chip. Google claims it delivers 20% faster web browsing and 17% quicker app launches. But the real star of the show is the chip’s AI capabilities, which power a host of new features designed to make your life easier.
The camera system, always a Pixel strong point, has been further improved, too. While the base Pixel 9 and Pro models share the same impressive 50MP primary and 48MP ultrawide cameras, the Pro models add a telephoto lens – likely to compete with the iPhones offering!
Your Phone Just Got Smarter with AI
Google’s doubling down on AI with the Pixel 9 series. The redesigned Weather app now offers AI-generated comments, giving personalised insights about the day ahead. The new Screenshots app uses AI to organise and make your captures searchable, while Pixel Studio lets you create AI-generated art right on your device in seconds.
Photography enthusiasts will love the Magic Editor’s new “Reimagine” feature. It allows you to highlight a section of your photo and completely transform it based on a text prompt. And for those group selfies where someone’s always left out, the new “Add Me” feature cleverly combines multiple shots to get everyone in the picture, so you’ll never miss that perfect photo opportunity if nobody is around to take it for you!
Pixel 9 Pro Fold
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is Google’s most ambitious device to date. With a 6.3-inch outer display and a massive 8-inch inner screen, it’s both a phone and a tablet that fits in your pocket. The displays are 80% brighter than the previous Fold, and the device is surprisingly thin – each side is barely thicker than the USB-C port. Add in the premium metal rails and soft-touch matte glass, plus IPX8 water resistance, and you’ve got a foldable that’s ready for everyday use. However, it’s still one of the most expensive smartphones on the market so it has a long way to go before it becomes a household device!
